VANGELO SECONDO MATTEO PROJECT

In the project Vangelo secondo Matteo, launched by Virgilio Sieni in December 2013, as a special training project of Biennale College Danza, six Italian regions and over 150 non-professional interpreters were involved in the creation of twenty-seven paintings inspired by the Gospel of the Apostle Matthew.
Two of these paintings, Annuncio dell'Angelo and Ultima cena, born in collaboration with Oriente Occidente Dance Festival, are due to 15 non-professional dancers from Trentino selected among the 40 registered for the auditions. The performance, whose world debut took place in July as part of the 9th International Festival of Contemporary Dance of the Biennale di Venezia, was also presented in September at MART on the occasion of the 2014 edition of the Festival Oriente Occidente.
For the selection of the dancers and the rehearsals of the two paintings, Virgilio Sieni spent a period of residency at the CID in March 2014.
Suspended between society and art, community dance has now spread to Italy with experiences that penetrate the fabric of everyday life and involve unsuspected groups. Among the first authors to experiment a 'dance for all' is without doubt Virgilio Sieni, creator of movement and gesture projects capable of transforming themselves into extraordinary moments of sharing and social integration. In the last decade, the Florentine choreographer has involved children, the elderly, non-sellers, partisans, relatives of victims of terrorism, preferring the relationship with the territory, the history and the iconography that distinguishes it.
This will also be the case for Vangelo secondo Matteo, a special training project of the Biennale College Dance launched by Sieni in December 2013, and whose world debut took place in July as part of the 9th International Festival of Contemporary Dance of the Venice Biennale. It involved six Italian regions and over 150 non-professional performers involved in the creation of twenty-seven paintings inspired by the Gospel of the Apostle Matthew. Two of these paintings, Annuncio dell'Angelo and Ultima Cena, are due to groups of Trentino people who have chosen to get involved. To assist Sieni in this magniloquent work in stages is the experience of Franca Zagatti, already back from a happy experience in Rovereto last year when she had thirty people between 8 and 86 dance in the moving performance Danze di vita quotidiana.
